ENTER THE COLLECTION

The history of St. John’s Episcopal Church begins in 1873 and continues to the present day. The church, through both its clergy and congregation, has provided valuable contributions in the field of education, helping grow the USU community, and in many fields of public service in Logan and Cache Valley. Yet the last 150 years has also seen plenty of challenges for St. John’s, but there are also many periods of growth. This collection documents the ups and downs of the church, its relationship with an increasingly diverse community, and its history of service. Important themes in the materials include education, university support, and community service.

This collection hosts photographs, manuscripts, audio files, and publications pertaining to the history and development of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Logan, Utah. Utah State University’s Special Collections and Archives at the Merrill-Cazier Library houses many different collections that relate to the fascinating history of St. John’s, its clergy, and the local congregation. Additional historical materials can be found in the Paul Jones Reading Room in St. John’s Episcopal Church.

The selected materials include excerpts from the Champ Family Collection, the Frederick P. Champ Collection, the St. John’s Episcopal Church Records Collection, and the Susan Sunada Papers.

A digital exhibition related to this collection is hosted at: St. John’s Episcopal Church: 150 Years of Service

The digitization of these materials and the creation of the digital exhibition were made possible by the generous contributions and sponsorship of St. John’s Episcopal Church (Logan, UT).
