Title
Tied-House Contract (1 of 2), 1894
Description
This contract outlines an agreement between Gustav L. Becker and Isaac Treger about the establishment of a tied-house. A tied-house was a saloon or bar where a brewery supplied capital and funds to open the establishment. In exchange for the loan, the proprietor would agree to exclusively serve the brewery's products. Tied-houses were a very popular tactic employed by breweries in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Tied-houses were outlawed upon the repeal of the 18th Amendment.
