(The) Old Maid ??? lady went back to her small town & found herlsef called an "old maid" - to her surprise. Her ???, How she'd ??? one of hte sons of one of the very ???? maternal ladies who was ??? a reproach. These after ??? wring out her in this little place - the one place in the whole world which (with its memories of her childhood) could pass her guard.
