Description

Jack London letter to Jack London of Cottage Grove, Oregon, dated March 21, 1913.
[Original at Jack London Ranch]
March 21, 1913
Jack L. London, Esq.
Cottage Grove, Oregon
My dear Jack London:
Some time recently I had forwarded to me from Mr. Hillier, your letter
of Feb. 25, 1913.
This is the second time I have received a letter from Jack London—nay, it
is the third time. Down in Sydney, Australia, lying in hospital[sic], I
received a letter from a boy, Jack London, who lived over in Western
Australia. About a hear and a half ago I received a letter from Jack London
in Omaha; and now I learn of you, still another Jack London.
I wonder if we are related. Please find herewith a short biography of
yours truly. Tell me about yourself; send me a photo of yourself. Let me
know if you think we are related, and what the branch of the family is from
which you have descended. The Londons, as you know, are a very large family.
In fact, there are two great London families. One is a Jewish family
which came to England from Austria about 200 years ago, and changed its
name to London. I am not a member of this family. I am a member of the
English family of Londons, hundreds of whom now reside in the City of London
and are in the City of London Directory, while hundreds of their emigrant
descendents are living in various parts of the U.S., from the Ear West to
the Ear South and on up to Old New England. Pleast tell me all about
yourself.
Sincerely yours,
(signed) Jack London
