Description

Mrs. Zuri García talks about being born in Puerto Rico, but moving when she was very young to first New York and then Salt Lake City when her parents separated. She talks about her mother becoming ill and living with their grandmother in Salt Lake City. She talks about her young childhood memories of Puerto Rico and New York, but mostly of coming to Utah. She recalls living again with her father when she was in fourth grade, but only for a short time. She talks about her quinceañera. She notes that her Spanish is bad because she doesn’t use it. She also talks about her studies, meeting her husband and their marriage, her religious beliefs and the importance she gives to her family. She also talks about her family holiday traditions and foodways. She talks about immigration and her husband’s asylum status.
