LDS Scriptures
Scriptures are a pillar to the LDS Church; they include the King James Bible, Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price in their standard works. The Book of Mormon was translated by the LDS prophet Joseph Smith in the late 1820s. It is a collection of records from people in the Ancient Americas, including a visit from Christ after His resurrection. Published in 1835, the Doctrine and Covenants contains a series of revelations given to Joseph Smith. The Pearl of Great Price is the least known of the LDS scripture collection; it is a translation of the books in the Bible and ancient scrolls found by Joseph Smith.1 Scriptures build the foundation of the LDS Church and are used to explain doctrine. Defenders of the priesthood race restriction and those demanding a change both used scriptural references to support their beliefs.
