Conclusion
While their collections may contain similarities, the women of this exhibit each contributed to Cache Valley history in distinct ways. Their journals, scrapbooks, poetry, and other records add complexity to the meaning of and responsibilities related to “womanhood.” Examination of these women’s lives within the context of common values reveal they had more similarities than differences. By supporting the core values of family, individuality, creativity, education, service, record keeping, leadership, women’s rights, and civic awareness, each woman used her role in society to concurrently esteem “traditional” roles of women and challenge popular definitions of “womanhood.”
