From its earliest beginnings the College of Family Life was active on the campus social scene. The students of the college pursued a course of study which specially qualified them to take charge of social gatherings. Through the 1950s they hosted and catered visits from dignitaries, as well as festivities for themselves and their peers.[1]  Starting in the 1960s, as the college focused more on creating professionals than on training homemakers; consequently, Family Life students were less central to the social affairs of the university.
