Introduction

Founded in 1890, the Department of Human Development and Family Studies has a rich history that is integral to Utah State University. As one of the earliest departments of the University, its history reflects the broader story of the changing status of women over the last 130 years, and from the beginning empowered women to pursue higher education. The women leaders of the department, especially, have paved the way for women in higher education. In this exhibit, we highlight some of these women and the contributions they have made to the department, college, and university.
