Special Event

The UAC campus was temporarily transformed into a military institution with enlisted students housed in numerous new barracks around the Quad.

During World War I, colleges and universities nationwide temporarily transformed into training grounds for the Student Army Training Corps (SATC). The corps was composed of students who received military training and then returned to their education following their military service. Due to the small size of the campus, President Peterson convinced the state in 1918 to provide the funds for permanent brick buildings which could then be used for both living quarters for the SATC during the war and classrooms after the war. This caused the campus to nearly double in size.
