There was a third Kraines/Kreines brother, Samuel, who was born October 15, 1877, and settled in Ogden during the early 1900s. He married Henrietta Buckossie Kreines, who was born in Hamburg, Germany, on December 20, 1881, and moved to Salt Lake City with her parents.[12]

Samuel was also a businessman like his brothers. He built a block specifically for businesses on Washington Avenue in 1914.[13] In 1928 The Ogden Standard-Examiner reported that Samuel also owned the Ogden Bag and Barrel Company.[14] Samuel died on December 1, 1949, in Washington, DC, where he moved and lived with one of his daughters shortly after the death of his wife, Henrietta, who died on January 14, 1947.[15] Samuel also spelled his last name like his brother David Kreines, though his last name is spelled as Kraines in all his obituaries. Yet on his gravestone at Aultorest Memorial Park, it is spelled as Kreines.

All three brothers were active members of Congregation Ohab Sholem as well as Congregation Brith Sholem. According to newspaper articles about the congregation, Joseph seemed to be the most involved. He helped organize and promote fundraising events for the construction of the synagogue and to help European Jews in distress. Joseph Kraines was also president of Congregation Brith Sholem for a short time.

The Kraines/Kreines brothers and their families were some of the first Jews in Ogden, settling in the area around 1906. They became prominent businessmen and helped establish Ogden’s Jewish community and its congregation.
