Sports

Sports were one of the highlights of Intermountain. Students often reported that the opportunity to compete in sports was one of the reasons they chose to attend Intermountain. The school offered intramural sports, such as games between various dorms, as well as varsity sports. Students participated in:

  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Cheerleading
  • Cross country
  • Dance
  • Diving
  • Drill team
  • Football
  • Golf
  • Gymnastics
  • Rodeo
  • Swimming
  • Tennis
  • Track and field
  • Volleyball
  • Water polo
  • Wrestling

Intermountain’s track and field and cross country teams were known and feared by school athletes throughout northern Utah and often won state championships.

Some Intermountain alumni still have fond memories of a year their basketball team was not doing well. In fact, the team hadn’t won a single game. Then came their big game against Logan High School, which had not lost a game that season. The coach, Hal Reeder, reminded them that on any given day, any team can beat another. And that was what the Intermountain team did: beat Logan 66–61. The school celebrated the victory for the next several weeks.
